About Hovercraft Amps
Custom & Recycled Tube Amps
Hovercraft Amps are designed to help you explore the deep world of three-dimensional sound. Built from scratch, and sometimes from recycled gear, our amps will hone your perception and appreciation of fuzz, tone, and reverb. Unparalleled in quality, they are bespoke works of art to those seeking deep sound.
Recycled, Revoiced, Rebuilt Amps
Hovercraft cultivates partnerships with manufacturers and artists to create high-quality, superior sound while helping to keep unloved gear out of the landfill. We do what we can to Reuse, Recycle, and Rerock whenever possible. Design faults are corrected. Fidelity and output power are increased. Hardware is upgraded, often with unobtainium vintage, one-offs, and custom manufactured parts. Signal paths are uncluttered. Mods and tone tricks are applied until the foundation is laid for kick-ass amps and cabinets.
Custom Amps
Our custom amps are handbuilt and each one represents hundreds of hours of work. Intended to be a feast for the ears and the eyes, Hovercraft Amps offer a complexity of sound not found elsewhere. Perfect for touring musicians, sound geeks, audiophiles, and collectors, our products are the Icons of Tone.
All Hovercraft Amps are handbuilt in Portland, Oregon, USA, where they are custom-tuned and infused with sonic improvement typically available only to touring pro musicians and expensive studios. On a quest for Plexis, metal panels, Recto, Mat Mathias, brown sound, and Sunn—Hovercraft products stand the test of time, ready to make decades of great music. If you’re tired of the status quo, you’re ready for a Hovercraft Amp.

The Man Behind the Amp
Part mad scientist, part audiophile, our founder Nial is an artist who’s been voicing audibly perfect amps for decades. Methodical and highly sensitive to all sounds, it’s his mechanical aptitude and thorough understanding of complex physics that make him the man you want building your amp. When he’s not revoicing recycled amps in the shop for Hovercraft he’s most likely modifying and rebuilding a vintage motorcycle.
“Another fine amp expertly packed by a solid dude. Thank you, sir.”
